daspictureOur Pastor

Our pastor at Woodward United Methodist Church is the Rev. Dale A. Schoening.  Pastor Dale came to us in July 2013.  He has been serving United Methodist churches in Iowa since 1983.  He considers himself most gifted in preaching, worship, and church administration.  He also has a gift for learning people's names quickly.

Pastor Dale grew up on a farm near Carson, IA.  He is a graduate of Carson-Macedonia High School; earned his BA from Morningside College in Sioux City, IA; and received his Master of Divinity degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL.  He also is a graduate of The Upper Room's two-year Academy for Spiritual Formation.

Pastor Dale and his wife, Mitzi, are parents of three grown sons and also count two dogs as part of the family.

Pastor Dale enjoys singing, playing trombone, collecting license plates, playing sports-related video games, and collecting items related to Methodist history, especially in Iowa.  He has published two books containing settings of the Psalms in the Bible that can be set to familiar hymn tunes, and currently maintains a website of these settings, which are used in worship in the churches he serves.  He is a consulting editor and Facebook page administrator for The Joyful Noiseletter, a Christian humor newsletter which is published bimonthly by the Fellowship of Merry Christians.  He has a blog on Wordpress called The Educated Hick.  He has an arcane interest in high school and college team nicknames.

Pastor Dale also drives some of the activity buses and occasionally substitutes on bus routes for the Woodward-Granger Community School District.

Pastor Dale is retiring effective June 30, 2017.

The new pastor effective July 1, 2017 will be the Rev. JaeHee Lee.  Her biographical information is forthcoming.
